Missing Michael
April 15th, 2010
Call-centre days–This might sound strange but they were good times. The place I worked at had something to do with calling people up and questioning them about professional skin care treatments. To this day nobody ever explained that fully.
My first day at the call-centre was like walking in to an actual dream. The idea I had been carrying around with me about how it would be to work in a call-centre? Completely wrong. There was no pressure, nobody to impress, and nothing much of any stress to be had. The only thing that grated a bit was being called every bad thing under the sun about twenty times a minute, but I soon got used to that, what with my making hundreds of calls every single day (that was after the first month…before that it was easy…)
Michael was the guy who was showing me the ropes for those first few weeks, and he was a great guy. If your definition of a great guy is someone who teaches you all the ways to get around doing what you have to do, and avoiding work in general, which makes a great guy for me. Michael quickly showed me how to make the telephone do automatic calls so that I didn’t have to physically be at my desk. That way, my quota of making a certain number of calls showed up on the system log, and nobody asked any questions.
It was all going great until Michael left. I say Left, it was more a mutual agreement that Michael had been a bit naughty and it was probably best he vanished before any more harm was done. I still thank Michael, though. Without him I’d have been forced to do real work for that first long month.
