Colombian Entrepreneurs in London
My mother has been worried about me. She keeps sending emails from Colombia asking how I am getting on in London. Hemingway called Paris a moveable feast, I wonder what he called London? Its not just a party and its not just a big city. London is the Capital of the World! My mum got me invited to a brilliant dinner party of Columbian expatriates. She thought it would help me find a job. Surprisingly, it did.
There was a man from Bogota who started a company that did inschool training in primary Spanish. Its genius, he works with primary teachers on their accents and lesson plans so that they can deliver lessons themselves to the youngest of the children. He hired me to work with teachers who already speak Spanish to improve their accent. Most of the lessons are in the teachers room drinking tea or proper Columbian coffee.

It was at a teaching session at a south London primary, that I got a great lead for my other job. The teacher had been doing leading walking tours for a Columbian travel company. It had been started by a Columbian architect who had married a British doctor. He was giving tours of London in English and Spanish, but his business had become so successful that he needed to take on more staff. The teacher I was working with, asked me to be her guiding partner as she didn’t think her Spanish was good enough to go solo. Giving guided tours of London is a huge business that has so many opportunities. I can channel all of my explorations into creating the coolest and hippest tours of the city from somebody who is really in the know. I am also learning a lot about history and architecture from people that really know their stuff.
