An initiative, back in my dad’s day, used to mean not getting spanked on the bum and going through the rest of the day without the ’burning hot heat’;on the buttocks. In my day, at school, it used to mean this: eat the semolina and don’t get in trouble, something which always resulted in ending up detention.
